Post 4 – These 3 wall reliefs are on display at the British Museum. This is the mighty Assyrian king Tiglath-Pilaser III (Bottom left) also known as Pul (2 Kings 15:19), which was apparently his birth name. The Assyrian empire was greatly expanded during his reign. He invaded the northern 10 tribe Kingdom of Israel (2 Kings 15:29) and besieged and conquered its cities. Prisoners could expect cruel treatment. Notice the impaled victims in the top panel. His policy was to deport entire populations (Bottom right) and repopulate the land with conquered peoples from other subject lands (2 Kings 17:24). 2 out of 3 of the above wall reliefs were taken from the ruins of his palace in Nimrud. Earlier this year what was left of the palace was bulldozed by ISIS. #weeklybiblereadingarcheology #biblereadingarcheology #biblereadingarchaeology
